What is Private Craps

Craps is one really interesting casino game. You can expect a bunch of players all over the craps table, some shouting, elated by the sheer thrill of the game. But all that action is not exclusive in the casino scene alone. One variation of the favorite craps game is Private Craps.

Private Craps is the craps game that you usually see played in American movies. You might have seen the game often played by soldiers, sailors, and even our good old movie gangsters and just didn't quite recognize it. Private Craps is usually played at high stakes minus the hassle of a casino, of course.

Private Craps, obviously, isn't played in casinos, but is played in a location agreed upon by players themselves. If you check out the features of Private Craps and compare that to the original craps game, you'll find only a few differences between the two.

Like the original craps game, in Private Craps the player rolling the dice is called the shooter. The shooter makes his bets and places them on the table. The other players at the table then make their bets. The other players may cover the shooter's bet as well if they wish (i.e. this move is called fading). In Private Craps, the players who cover the shooter's bet are called faders.

Like in the standard craps game, the shooter makes the come out throw. The shooter wins with a total of seven or 11 in the come out throw (a.k.a. the natural). A total of two, three, or 12 for the come out roll in Private Craps makes the shooter lose (i.e. also known craps, like in the original game).

The bets at the center of the table in Private Craps are called the center bets. In Private Craps, if the shooter wins in the come out roll, that player also gets all the center bets.

If the shooter loses in the come out roll, the other players take back their stakes along with a corresponding amount from the shooter.

You'll encounter "pass" and "miss" as terms also used in Private Craps. A "pass" in Private Craps is a winning throw made by the shooter, while a "miss" is a losing throw. If you notice, some of the terms are quite similar since there are only a few differences between the original craps game and Private Craps.

Private Craps is a version of casino craps minus the casino and the officials on the table. You may consider it a craps game among friends, just take note of the huge stakes in play in Private Craps.
