Calculating Craps Odds
Knowing the craps odds help a lot when making our betting strategy. An understanding of the probability and odds help players decide which bets they are to make when playing craps. If a player knows the math that are at work behind craps odds, then you can count on that player making the better bets in a game.
Calculating the craps odds might look like it can squeeze a lot from your brain. The truth is, calculating craps odds is really quite simple. When dealing with dice, we first check what are the possible outcomes we can come up with. This will prove true, not only in craps, but in other games that use a pair of dice.
When rolling a pair of dice with six sides (there are dice that have more or less than six sides on them) you can only make 36 possible combinations. There are only 11 possible totals that you can make from these two dice (i.e. the totals will range from two to 12). Therefore, when calculating your craps odds, just remember that there are 36 combinations that make totals ranging from two to 12.
Here's an example of how to calculate your craps odds. There is only one way to make a total of two on a pair of dice. The same goes for a 12 (i.e. you have to roll a pair of sixes). Remember that there are 36 combinations open to us whne figuring out the odds. And of the 36 combinations on two dice, only one will ever total to two. So our probability will go as one out of 36. In odds terms this probability will translate into 35 to one.
Without further ado, here are your craps odds. We've already done the two so we'll proceed with three to 12.
A total of three will have an odds of 17 to one (two possible combinations out of 36, or one out of 18, in odds terms this is 17 to one.
A total of four will be 11 to one, since it has three possible combinations. A five has odds of eight to one (four possible combinations). A six will have craps odds at 6.2 to one (five possible combinations). A seven will have craps odds at five to one (six combinations). An eight has craps odds at 6.2 to one (five combinations). Nine will have eight to one craps odds (total of four combinations).
A ten will have odds at 11 to one, and an 11 has craps odds at 17 to one. The craps odds for a 12 will be the same as the odds for a one.
Calculating craps odds is really simple. The winning craps player will check out the odds and bet on the number with the best odds.
